Q: Why am I asked to install QuickTime?

A: QuickTime (version 6.5 or later) software is required to view the animated video sections of Get Into French/Spanish. If you do not install QuickTime 6.5, the CD-ROM will not work properly. To install QuickTime, follow the on-screen instructions.

If you do not install QuickTime when asked to during the installation, you can do so from the menu on disc 1.

Some graphics cards exhibit problems when displaying QuickTime video. If you have problems with video it may be worth changing QuickTime to 'Safe Mode'. To do this select Start, then Control Panel. In the Control Panel window double click QuickTime. In the QuickTime Settings window select either 'Video settings' or the 'Advanced' tab and then select Safe Mode (GDI Only).

Q: Why can’t I play the videos?
A: Check that you have installed QuickTime, as you will not be able to view the animated videos without it.

Q: When I install QuickTime it asks for my registration details – do I need to provide them?
A: No. QuickTime 6.5 or later is available in both Pro and non-Pro versions. Get into French/Spanish requires only the non-Pro version, which does not require you to register. For more information about QuickTime and QuickTime Pro visit the QuickTime website at www.apple.com/quicktime. The BBC and BBC Active are not responsible for the content of external internet sites.

Q: Why do I get a blank sheet of paper when I try to print?
A: This happens with some older printer drivers. Firstly, make sure you are using the latest drivers for your printer. These can be obtained from your printer manufacturer. If replacing the driver does not work, it may be that the output resolution is too high. Try setting the ‘Print Quality’ setting to 300 x 600 dpi.

Q: I’m having problems with the picture quality.
A: Please ensure that you are running Get Into French/Spanish using a 800 x 600 display set to 24 bit colour, and that you are using the latest drivers available from your hardware supplier. If you need to change any settings on your computer, please consult your manual.

Q: When I click on Uninstall or Reinstall nothing happens.
A: Some older versions of Windows lose the link to the Uninstall or Reinstall program on the CD-ROM. If this happens, insert Disc 1 into the drive, select Start, then Run… and type D:\setup.exe (where D:\ is the letter of your CD-ROM drive) and click on OK. This will then run the Uninstall or Reinstall program.

Q: Why am I getting a 'script error' message?
A: This could mean that you have not installed DirectX from the CD, or you do not have local Administrator rights. Install DirectX, or use the program with Administrator rights.
